It isn’t just your knowledge, your education and the concrete facts that inspire the media and public to action, it’s the very powerful and moving stories you witness every day in your practice that solidify an understanding of how nutrition and the environment we live in shape the public’s health.

The Champion Providers Fellowship will be hosting a full day workshop to help Fellows learn how to use those powerful stories to shape public opinion and mobilize action.

Led by the president of Brown×Miller Communications, Michael Miller, the workshop will introduce Champions to the concept of Persuasive Narratives – a way of taking your real-life experiences and turning them into a powerful advocacy tool. It will then include a workshop to help Fellows develop their own persuasive narrative and end with a session on how to put those narratives to work as a powerful advocacy tool.

This series is designed as an interactive workshop, with sessions providing didactics, counsel and working time to develop, practice and leave your customized persuasive narrative with BMC. On April 30, there will be feedback from BMC on your persuasive narratives.

Travel:

Travel reimbursement (For Cohort 2023 only): Travel expenses (air/ground transportation, hotel accommodations, parking, etc.) will be processed and reimbursed per the California Department of Public Health travel guidelines. Meals will not be reimbursed. Please refer to the Champion Provider Fellowship Travel Guidelines for more information on travel reimbursements. UCSF will cover travel costs for Cohort 2023. All other Champion Provider Fellow alumni will be required to cover costs associated with their attendance at the training.

• Please retain ALL original travel related receipts for reimbursement.

The reimbursement request form will be emailed to participants after the training is complete.

Lodging:

• UCSF will cover Cohort 2023 Champion Provider Fellows for (1) night of hotel accommodations from Monday, April 15th to Tuesday, April 16th at the hotel.

Parking: Visit the UCLA Luskin Conference Center website for directions and parking. If you are driving, please allow an extra 30-45 minutes for parking and walking.

Mileage: Mileage will be reimbursed at the current IRS rate of $.65/mile. Gasoline, routine repairs, tires, or other automobile expense items are included in the mileage reimbursement rate.

Air: The Los Angeles Airport (LAX) is approximately 12 miles from the venue. The Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) is approximately 20 miles from the venue .
